While at Super-H we also picked up a bag of papaya drink mix. Suspiciously enough, also in the latino isle. If you thought the Tang milk was good, you have to try the papaya milk. Apparently this stuff is quite common south of the border. Why do they keep us Gringos in the dark about these things? And it has no trans-fats.
We also made (well, S made) potato and celery root soup (Crescent Dragonwagon) and some Bittman Bread. We used the bread for assorted crostini. The toppings we chose were Roquefort, scarola sauteed with garlic, and fungi sauteed with sage. The toppings you choose are irrelevant. Practically anything will work and the point is that few things are more satisfying than a bowl of hot soup on a cold night and a buffet of toppings for crusty bread. Of course, some red wine was involved.
On the menu for next week:
- Roast chicken and veggie tian
- Homemade pasta (S has taken it on as a project) with tomato mushroom sauce
- Sushi and miso soup
- Pirogis with sauerkraut and brats
