Westward Ho!

A half day at the office on Thursday and then the lovely S and I are off to visit my parents in Illinois for the weekend. Eldorado, IL to be specific. You can't exactly get there from here, so we have to fly from DC to Memphis to Evansville, IN and then drive an hour to Southern Illinois. There is not a lot there, but there will be a fish fry and a bbq at the parents' place. What does that have to do with the 2005 Herrin Youth Football team you ask? Let me explain.

Take a closer look at those snazzy uniforms. They are sponsored, you see, by Nessler's Polar Whip. The PW as we call it acquired its name by serving the first soft-serve ice cream in the state of Illinois... or the southern part of Illinois... or Herrin, IL. Whatever. Their claim to fame these days is serving a 50 cent double cheeseburger. They use mostly soy and grain fillers to keep the cost down and, man, is it tastey. They don't try to pussy-foot around. It is just flat out filler, but it crisps up quite nicely on the griddle. In the 1970's, they were even commended by president Ford for doing their part to "Whip Inflation Now." Add more filler and keep those prices down guys! I'm coming for you double cheese. Somebody should have tipped off Alton Brown for his series of "Feasting on Asphalt."

Just look at those roughians on Team Polar Whip! You just KNOW they could kick Team Hardee's ass. It's all that protein.
