I know you've all been dying for a new post, but it has been a slow weekend. The Lovely S made excellent chocolate chip cookies and a new recipe, pineapple upside down cake. Here you go. It tastes as good as it looks. She used moscovado sugar for the gooey topping.A cousin of S's was in town apartment hunting and we took him out to dinner at a restaurant we hadn't tried before, Artie's. It is part of a small local chain and is very good. We were surprised. Basic American food, but done extremely well. If you're in Fairfax, try it. I would compare it to Clyde's, but the quality seems more consistent-- and I say that as a fan of Clyde's. S was fresh from a shopping trip in Tyson's Corner that ended with an ice cream stop, so she wasn't very hungry. She had the chopped salad and a baked potato. The salad was rather finely chopped so she didn't have to struggle with the lettuce pieces. It included corn, tomato, arugula, and romaine and was dressed in a creamy buttermilk sauce. They were very accomodating about keeping the cheese off for her. Not a big cheese fan. I had the pecan crusted trout with browned butter and chardonnay sauce and parmesan potatoes. All excellent. Big portions, but none left over for the cats :( Oh, and it came with spinach, but I didn't get sick!

I too lived dangerously this weekend and ate spinach.
