Best of Asia

Here are some pics of our recent trip. We started off in Taiwan where we visited family and ate a lot of excellent food. One of the best was the flavored milk. This seems to be a Taiwanese specialty, as we saw it nowhere else. Our favorite was papaya, but we also saw apple, custard, capucinno, and mango.

We also tried a multicourse pre fixe at Mitsui, a Japanese restaurant in Taipei. There was sashimi, salad, fish, soup, and dessert. But my favorite food from Taiwan was (excuse the spelling) Da bao bao shiao bao, or "big bun wrapped around a little bun," roughly translated. It is a deep fried, golden-brown-brown-and-delicious crispy bread thing flavored with, in my case "hot spicey" and wrapped in something akin to a tortilla, then crushed into crispy little bits. Mmmmm... the contrast between the crispy inside and the soft tortilla-like thing was delicious. And whats not to like about multiple carbs combined into one food and deep fried? Excellent work Taiwan. This was at the Shilin night market if you're in the neighborhood. The picture editor on blogger isn't doing a wonderful job, so enjoy the chaos of this post.
