Vacation Wrap-Up

Wow, I have been away for a long time! Last weekend S and I were preparing for a visit from my family-- shopping, cooking, running errands, etc-- and last week I took a few days away from the office to show my sister, brother-in-law, and nephews around town. One of our tourist excursions was to Mount Vernon, home of our first President, George Washington. I have lived in D.C. for almost nine years and had visited years before, so this was not my first trip to Mount Vernon. A lot of changes have been made and a new visitor center built. It is now very slick and modernized, but a bit assembly-line in style. I don't remember being rushed through so quickly in the past. A true treasure for the country, though. No doubt about that. Kudos to the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association for maintaining the facilities on behalf of the nation.

Other excursions included Old Town Alexandria, one of my favorite neighborhoods around D.C., Capitol Hill and Bullfeathers Pub, The National Mall, The Basilica of the something something blah blah at Catholic University, and Georgetown-- lunch at Clydes, tour of the University (Walt is in high school and looking but I'm rooting for UVA).
